EDF Gas And Electricity Price Rise Announced

EDF Energy has become the last of the “big six” energy companies to raise their gas and electricity prices for domestic customers. EDF has announced that it is to raise gas prices by 15.4% and electricity prices by 4.5% for domestic customers with effect from 10th November 2011.

Npower Raises Gas And Electricity Prices

Npower has become the latest UK energy company to announce a further increase in energy prices for their domestic gas and electricity customers in 2011.

 

Npower has announced that gas prices will rise by 15.7%, with electricity prices rising by 7.2%. These latest price rises will come into effect from 1st October 2011. Npower last raised domestic gas and electricity prices in January 2011.

E.ON Latest Gas and Electricity Supplier To Raise Prices

E.ON has become the latest of the “big six” UK gas and electricity suppliers to raise household energy prices.

 

E.ON has announced today that it will raise domestic electricity prices by 11.4% and domestic gas prices by 18.1% with effect from 13th September 2011. This latest E.ON price rise will affect around 5 million customers.

Energy Secretary Urges Consumers To Switch Supplier

The government’s Energy Secretary, Chris Huhne MP has urged gas and electricity consumers to switch supplier if their energy supplier raises it’s gas and electricity prices.

 

In an interview with the Observer newspaper, Mr Huhne said: “Consumers don’t have to take price increases lying down.  If an energy company hits you with a price increase, you can hit them back where it hurts – by shopping around and voting with your feet.”

Citizens Advice Encourage Consumers To Switch Energy Supplier

Citizens Advice and Ofgem, the energy industry regulator, are launching a joint online campaign to encourage domestic energy customers into switching gas and electricity supplier.

 

Citizens Advice and Ofgem first started working together on the “Energy Best Deal” campaign in 2008 and rolled out a national campaign in the winter of 2008/9. Energy Companies Failing Consumers Says Ofgem

The “big six” energy firms, British Gas, npower, E.ON, Scottish Power, EDF and Scottish and Southern Energy are failing consumers says the industry regulator Ofgem.

 

Ofgem’s review into the gas and electricity market in the UK found that competition is being stifled by a combination of too much complexity in the range of tariffs available, poor supplier behaviour, and a lack of transparency.

UK Energy Use Down 5%

The UK’s overall energy usage fell by more than 5% between 2000 and 2008 according to a new European Commission report. This fall in energy usage over the eight year period makes the UK one of the top performers in europe for energy efficieny.
